A piece of German History
Posted on 16. Sep, 2009 by Mr Picardo in Deutsch, Year 8
The boys in Year 8 have only just started learning German and, in the very first lesson, as well as learning to say some basics such as Ich heiße or Guten Tag!, we also learned about the importance of German as a language and talked about recent german History.
So, when after that first lesson Michael A sent me this message, I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to be able to bring to school a piece of German History.
The fall of the Berlin Wall marked a pivotal moment on world history and here, in our second lesson, we were able to come face to face with a piece of history.

Danke Michael!

That’s brilliant! I was able to collect a piece of the wall myself in the summer of 1990 but it’s just a plain piece of concrete. Yours looks much better.

I wish all teachers would start a new language with a bit of cultural background – sure makes it more exciting.
Have fun with your German studies!

And what fabulous colours on your piece of wall – right out of the late 80s early 90s (like all of the clothes we are seeing in fashion again!)
I hope you are celebrating the 20th anniversary of when the wall came down this Monday. A great occasion.
