Film Review: Broken Embraces
Posted on 05. Oct, 2009 by Mrs Moorhouse in A2, AS, Español, Languages

Here at Nottingham High School we are looking to run regular trips to Broadway Cinema to make full use of the range of foreign films shown there. Mrs Moorhouse will be responsible for organising these excursions so watch this space for what’s showing next and get involved! Below, James T talks about the sixth form’s recent trip to see Pedro Almodovar’s Broken Embraces.
On Friday 25th September, a hoard of sixth form Spanish students descended on the Broadway Cinema, accompanied amiably by Mr. Picardo and Mr. Allerton, to see the latest big screen wonder from Pedro Almodóvar. ‘Broken Embraces’ starring Penelope Cruz, Lluis Homar and Blanca Portillo, followed the journey of film director Harry Caine back through his own memory to the loss of his true love: the defining moment of his life.
We all really enjoyed the film, especially Mr. Allerton whose laughter resonated around the small auditorium on numerous occasions, and hope to make this a more regular extra-curricular venture as part of learning more about Spanish culture in the sixth form.
