Tip of the Week: Skiing – Perfect your chasse-neige
Posted on 26. Nov, 2009 by Mrs Moorhouse in Deutsch, Español, Français, Languages

It’s that time of year when we begin thinking about how many squats we have to do each day to get our hamstrings ready to hit the slopes in the holidays. But, your body is not the only thing that might need a workout beforehand. Why not brush up on your skiing vocabulary? It’s a good a chance as any trip abroad despite the frequent lack of locals in the resorts.
Whether you’re hitting the slopes in the Sierra Nevada, the half-pipe in Chamonix or the slalom on the Jungfrau, BBC Languages have some great phrases to get you started on the slopes. You can listen and repeat on the website, download the MP3s to your iPod as well as printing them out for a last minute cram as you put your boots on in the morning!
If you’re not an absolute beginner in the language, why not have your skiing/boarding lessons in the native language rather than English? This kind of immersion, whilst being tiring and hard work, will bring your language on in leaps and bounds!
You could team up your skiing holiday with a language course with Apple Languages or search the web to find an alternative.
Be careful how your pronounce your carefully practised phrases though… unlike this man…
