Website of the Week – Wordle

I’ve been using Wordle all week to create vocabulary learning posters to display in our classrooms and this got Mr. Picardo and I thinking… how could you use this website at home to aid your learning?
Wordle (www.wordle.net) is a website whereby you can paste in text or lists of words which will then create a word cloud. You can be creative with these using many colours and fonts to tailor them to your taste! More common words appear larger and there is the ability to check the word count for each word and remove frequently used words such as articles which you don’t wish to see repeated.
This is a great tool for improving your written language skills. Copy and paste your written work into the text box and you’ll see clearly which words you are overusing or indeed which parts of speech your work is lacking.
Alternatively, paste in an article from a news website on a topical issue and print it to remind yourself of vocabulary. In terms of vocabulary lists for revision, Wordle sees the end of endless lists and lists of words that just don’t seem to sink in – instead create a pretty word cloud, print it and stick it up next to your desk!

I have also used Wordle for a wide range of purposes, for example, as a memory of a joint concert held in Móstoles within a Comenius project.
My partners loved reading our names.
