A Prophet (in French Un prophète) is the latest French film to come to Broadway Cinema in Nottingham. It is running from Friday 22nd January until Thursday 4th February. So far, A Prophet has won two prestigious film awards: the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and Best Film at the London Film Festival. It has been entered for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Academy Awards.
“This gripping, testosterone-fuelled prison drama follows a labyrinthine plot which tells of nineteen year old, illiterate inmate Malik el Djebena’s rise through the criminal ranks. Utilising an almost exclusively male and largely non-professional cast of actors, Audiard creates a compelling and hard-edged work of social realism that is immensely detailed in its accounts of prison life and in its exploration of the politics of organised crime.”
