Website of the Week – Il était une histoire
Posted on 28. Jan, 2010 by Mrs Moorhouse in Français
Il était une histoire is a website designed for French children which is filled to the brim with fairy tales, poems, fables and stories. In spite of its target audience this is a great tool for students learning French as a second language.
Here are some ideas on how you can make best use of this website in your personal study:
- Pronunciation practice – listen to poems as you follow the text and perfect your pronunciation! Note the pronunciation differences between conversational French and poetic French.
- Tense practice – fairy tales are fantastic for practising tense usage – particularly the use of the pesky Past Historic tense that only appears in literature and political speeches.
- Vocabulary learning – stories and fables are rich in natural vocabulary – trees, animals, colours etc so keep your vocab book to hand and learn some new words!
