The Language Ambassadors Scheme 2009/10
Posted on 04. May, 2010 by Mr Picardo in Languages
Back in the Autumn Term we launched our first ever Language Ambassadors Scheme at Nottingham High School. Nine boys from Year 11 and Year 13 have now reached the end of the scheme.
The aim was to develop the potential of our best linguists by involving them in the delivery of language lessons in Lovell House and the Junior School. Pupils were paired up and given the task of preparing a twenty-minute lesson suitable for modern foreign language beginners in Reception and Year 4 classes.
The end result benefits both parties. Our ambassadors had the chance to stand in the teacher’s shoes in the MFL classroom opening their eyes to the processes involved in language teaching and learning. They also had to develop communication, presentation and leadership skills to use with excitable classes!
The pupils in both the Junior School and Lovell House saw the enthusiasm and passion that our ambassadors have for language learning which will hopefully encourage them as they make their subject choices in the future!
Our thanks go to all those who have collaborated in the Language Ambassadors Scheme and, especially, to the Language Ambassadors themselves, who have proved to be a credit to school and should be very proud of their contribution.

Fantastic idea! Well done! Boys, it would be great to know how the little ones responded to you. Were they really keen? Which activities seemed to work best with them?

I think that this was a great idea and it was good to hear of boys in different parts of the School working together. My own son experienced two of the sessions and came home really excited by the experience and the idea of giving them sweets went down very well indeed! Thanks for all the effort you put into this.
