Year 10 publish their Storybird books
Posted on 23. Jan, 2011 by Mr Picardo in Español, Year 10
The boys in Year 10 have been working hard practising for a writing controlled assessment. Below is a selection of the work they have submitted using a tool called Storybird.
Rather than keep the work locked in an exercise book or a word document, we decided to publish it in this way so that each pupil’s work could be shared with one another more easily, with a view to learning from each other.
Further task for the boys: Read a few of these Storybird books and then then pick one you liked particularly and write a comment on the right in the two stars and a wish format that we discussed in lessons (two things that they did really well and one thing that could be improved).

Enjoyed looking at your storybirds, good to see you being creative but also like the idea of you commenting on each others work. Great to see you using new technology so creatively and hopefully you enjoyed doing it too.

I’ve just read your storybirds and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading them. Your stories were very interesting and I loved your choice of images. I lived in Madrid for four years so it was also great for me to practise my Spanish!
I am an English teacher in Portugal and I think my students would love to experiment with storybirds too. Did you enjoy making them?

Me gusta mucho la idea de utilizar Storybird para practicar gramática y vocabulario. Lo voy a utilizar en el futuro con mi KS4.
Gracias

Hi
Ben A I found your Storybird really interesting to read and the spanish is faultless apart from the thrid slide which has a typo. The hermans should be hermana. I also like your use of both the future and conditional tense in the last slide. However you could have perhaps used the future tense in some of the earlier slides to make the Spanish more complicated!

Charlie K’s was very good because he uses complex language, with varying tenses and extensive vocabulary. It was also a very interesting piece of writing. However he could have used more relevant pictures, although I myself know there is a limited choice. On the whole it was very good.

Harry P, I enjoyed reading about your future plans and you used the future and conditional tenses well. You also used a good range of vocab when talking about you and your familie’s characteristics.

Anuj, I thought that your storybook was very detailed and confident, and contained many interesting expressions. However, I think that in future you could also use more commas and semicolons rather than just full stops in sentence structure.

Hari’s was really good: a great variety of language, good use of different tenses and flawless Spanish (maybe a few typos). Perhaps you could have used the future tense a bit more widely but finding something negative to say was difficult.

Dominic, your storybird was excellent well done! Great detailed language used throughout the text. You also used complex phrases and connectives to improve the story. Good use of questions Dom, however maybe you could vary when you use them rather than just at the end of each paragraph.

Max SG- I thought your Storybird was very good. You used a very wide range of vocabulary and you also used the tenses to good effect. My only complaint would be that some of the pictures were not relevant to the paragraph alongside them. But, still, really good.

I really enjoyed reading ArunM’s storybird as it had a large variety of language and was well phrased. There was a very good use of reflexive verbs but to make even better there could have been more tenses used throughout the work.

I thought that your story was very good and very amusing. You used interesting vocabulary, and frequent adjectives, that elevate your work to a high standard. I myself would have been more imaginative with sentence structures, and would have made an effort to iron out mistakes such as ‘hermans’ (presumably meant to be hermana) and ‘también el pelo rizardo y los ojos marrones’, which are unacceptabubble. Nevertheless, a good effort.

David B your Storybird was brilliant, especially because I was your friend
. Your Spanish was faultless and used very effectively. I also liked the fact that you had lots of complex sentence structures. Maybe you could have included some part of the future tense and there was a typo on page 5 but in general it was good.

MatthewJames, you used some advanced spanish in your storybird and it was thoroughly enjoyable to read. Your uses of tenses are excellent and the only thing you could improve is the relevance of your pictures.

Ben An, I thought your storybird was good as it uses many good frequency words, with a range of vocabulary, with enjoyable relevant pictures, the one thing you could have improved on is the use of a few more tenses.
