Year 9 – Las asignaturas y los profesores
Posted on 20. Jan, 2011 by Mr Picardo in Español, Year 9
Our Year 9 pupils have been learning about school subjects and about expressing opinions. They have worked really hard to write and record these Vokis.
Task for Year 9 pupils: Listen to some of the Vokis your friends have produced (not your own!) and then choose one and leave a comment about it on the right hand side of this page using the two stars and a wish format we saw in our lessons: two things that they did well plus one thing they could improve on.

Chris H – I really liked your Voki. You got all the adjective endings correct and used ‘porque’ well. Your pronunciation sounded very authentic. Perhaps you could have varied your sentence openings and structure a little more but overall it was very good!

Graham: I thought your adjective endings were well done and also your use of different words was brilliant. However the pronunciation could be improved a bit. But overall the voki was really well done!!!!!!!

Your voki is very good: you obviously understand the adjectival agreement and the Spanish is spoken in a clear, well paced voice. Maybe you could try to improve your accent, using shorter vowels and rolling ‘r’s.

John,
Your voki is very good because it is easily understandable and very clear. I also think your Spanish accent is good. Maybe you could have used ‘porque’ a bit more but besides that it was very good!

Max,
* Great use of language and porque
* Great Accent
You could try to speak a little slower to be able to understand it completely

[...] Finally, I collect all the Vokis by email, import them into my own account and assess them. If you have your own classroom blog, you may want to publish your pupils’ Vokis in your blog for further peer-assessment, which your pupils could do by leaving comments for one another, as my pupils have done here in our blog. This is a fantastic assessment idea.
I am researching how to teach English reading to ESL learners and would like to modify this idea to use as an assessment tool for my project.
Do you have anything like this that has been applied to younger learners (early years, 1 – 3?)
Thanks,
Anne Carol S.
