Film: Truffaut Season at Broadway

Broadway Cinema is showing three films during the Easter holidays by the famous director François Truffaut.
Silken Skin, showing on Sunday 17th April, is “one of Truffaut’s subtlest and most richly rewarding films, this account of an extra-marital affair displays the influence of two of the director’s idols: Renoir and Hitchcock. Coolly and cruelly ironic, yet distinguished by a wonderfully delicate tenderness echoed in Georges Delerue’s score and Raoul Coutard’s monochrome camerawork, the film also boasts deftly nuanced performances by the three leads.”
The 400 Blows is showing on Monday 18th April. “Thirteen-year-old Antoine can’t seem to do anything right. Neglected by his parents and mistreated by his repressive schoolteachers, Antoine rebels by playing truant, sneaking into the cinema and disastrously committing petty crimes. Set in a Paris of dingy apartments and seedy arcades, François Truffaut’s Palme d’Or-winning, debut feature is still rightly regarded as one of the best coming-of-age movies of all time.”
On Tuesday 19th April Jules et Jim is showing. “A remarkably frank exploration of the nature of love and friendship, Jules et Jim features one of the most famous love triangles in the history of cinema. Stylistically and psychologically rich, it still radiates an astonishing freshness and vitality.”
All of the films have a PG certificate so all years are encouraged to get along and experience some classic French cinema!
