Year 10 describe famous people in Spanish
Posted on 11. Dec, 2011 by Mr Picardo in Español, Languages, Year 10
The boys in Year 10 have been learning how to describe people. We thought it would be a good idea to challenge them to find Spanish speaking celebrities that they could then describe.
The multimedia posters below are the result of this challenge. Not only have the boys written the descriptions themselves but they have also recorded them for you to hear (look out for the play button in each of the posters). Most posters also contain video clips of said celebrities speaking in Spanish. Did you know Barack Obama speaks fairly decent Spanish, as does Will Smith?
Further task for the boys: Please pick one of the posters below (not your own), read it and listen to the recording. Then please write a comment here outlining two things that you think that boy did well and why and one thing they could do better and how.

To Nathan C,
Your spanish is flawless, and I loved the part where you mentioned that Obama was not fluent. Adding more words like ‘Tambien’ and ‘Finalmente’ would link your sentences together a bit better, but is not necessary.
Great Job!

Harry T,
Your glog is very interesting and covers all of the main points of the task, the video is very helpful and interesting. However there is a typo in the first block of text as you have spelt ‘Hola’ as ‘Holla.’ Overall its a great piece and i never knew David Beckham spoke spanish! Well done!

Rahul B,
i really enjpoyed your glog, your spanish accent was very good and clear. i noticed that in both texts you had a typo when saying: nací when it should be nació. i also liked your sentence structure and your complex vocabulary. I never knew that will Smith was born in Philidelphia! overall, a very enjoyable piece of work! well done!

Hi Max R,
Personally i think that your glogster is visually appealing and well laid out. Your grammar and range of vocablularly was perfectly relevant to the task. The only thing that I would comment on was your audio file, which was quite quiet! Because of this i couldn’t hear if all of the ‘C’s were spoken as ‘th’s

Mark N, overall your glogster poster was good. You used a wide range of adjectives such as ‘cómico’ and ‘tímido’. However there was one mistake in the top box, where you put ‘cuarenta y un’ where it should have been ‘cuarenta y uno’.

This is a comment for Jeevan G. On your second paragraph the use of descriptive language is very good and you add complexity by using a colon. You could improve next time by adding use of the past tense, rather than having everything in the present tense!

Hi Nathan C,
I think that you use of spanish is excellent and you use a wide range of vocabularly. Your audio file is excellent. However, try to add complexity to your sentece structures by using conjunctions to make your Spanish flow better. But, overall, I though the poster was very good.

Nathan C, you have described Barack Obama and Matt Damon very well by using good and varied adjectives. I also think that your pronunciation is excellent. This is a very good piece of work but next time maybe you could use the third person instead of the first person.

Hey Nathan c. The poster was very good and imformative and your accent was clear. However, the pacing of your speech was vaired. You would be very slow in places and then rush through some sentances, which made it slightly uncomfortable to listen too. On the other hand, you made a great effort and had lots of well thought of vocabulary in your paragraphs. Well Done

Nathan C, you range of vocabulary is impressive and your grammar is good, I learnt some new spanish from this myself. I thought that your spanish speaking was very well done. The only comment i would have to try and improve this is by using the 3rd person to make the spanish slightly more complicated.
Very good work!!

Harvey B,
Your Spanish grammar is excellent and you described your famous person very well. You also did well at describing his previous divorce with Ana Leza However your spanish speaking and pronunciation needs some work as you are often replacing a’s and o’s at the end of words and you are still making the mistake with cumpleaños.

Your Glog is generally good because it gives us a lot of facts about the people you have described. However you could add a bit more colour and variety to the back ground to make it stand out more than it already does.
WELL DONE (=

Usman R, I think you have used an excellent video clip as it shows that Will Smith really does understand and speak spanish fluently. In your fist paragraph there is a good introduction to gives the reader infomation about you chosen character. To improve i think you should use more connectives to make your writing sound more complex.

You have made a very good attempt at this and it makes perfect sense. There is one small mistake in the top box where you said cuarenta y un instead of ‘uno’. You could try using conectives to make your sentences more complex.
Well Done

Hello Tommy,I really like your clear layout on your glogster. It is full excellent and correct spanish, for example ‘No tiene los hermanos pero tiene ocho hermanastros’. I think you could make your Spanish better by adding conjunctions because some of your sentences are quite short. So using words like también, y, porque.

To Harvey B
Your overall layout is very appealing and i enjoyed the video, your spanish is quite complex and interesting and your speaking is good. The only improvements i would make is speaking slightly faster and you should put slightly more attention into the phrase: cumpleanos.
Overall, a very good job
