Trips and Visits
Trips and visits form a very important part of the Modern Languages Department’s extra-curricular activities. Below are details of last year’s trips as well as our plans for trips this academic year.
2010-11
Autumn Term
Year 10 & 11 Trip to Málaga
40 Year 10 & 11 students spent a four day break in Málaga on the south coast of Spain. Click the link to read Callum G’s account of the trip.
Sixth Form Exchange to Münster
Eight sixth-form German students travelled with Mr Whitehead and Mr Brown to Münster for the first leg of the German exchange. Click the link above to read snippets from the boys’ trip diaries.
Spring Term
Year 7 Trip to Paris and Normandy
Sixth Form Trip to Lille
Sixth Form Trip to Cádiz
Eight sixth-form Spanish students travelled to Cádiz in Andalusia for a short resitdential study trip. Click on the link for more information on what they got up to.
Summer Term
Year 8 Trip to Rheinland
20 Year 8 boys embarked on this trip to Germany’ famous Rheinland region. Sightseeing visits included: Boppard, Ruedesheim, Bonn and Phantasialand. Click on the link above for a special animated video of their trip.
Year 9 & 10 Exchange to Gilching
Highlights of the trip included sun-filled visits to Munich, Frauenkirche, Hofbraeunhaus, the Allianz Arena and Neuschwanstein Castle.
Sixth Form Film Workshops at the University of Nottingham
Groups of Year 12 students from French, German and Spanish each spent an afternoon at the University of Nottingham watching a foreign language film and then attending a one-hour workshop led by a member of academic staff from the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies. The films were: La Haine for French, Sophie Scholl for German and The Motorcycle Diaries for Spanish.
2011-12
Autumn Term
Year 8 Trip to Seville
26 Year 8 boys travelled to Seville, Jerez and Cádiz in Andalusia during October half-term. Follow the link above to find out more about what they boys got up to.
Sixth Form Exchange to Münster
Eight Year 12 German students took park in the first leg of this year’s exchange with Gymnasium Paulinum in Münster. Read more about their activities and experiences in the link above and watch the slideshow of photos below. Contact Mr Whitehead for more details of the return trip in March 2012.
Spring Term
Year 7 Trip to Paris and Normandy 29th March-4th April
This trip includes three nights full board accommodation in Paris and three nights full board accommodation in Mervile, Normandy. Not-to-be-missed sightseeing opportunities include: the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Musée d’Orsay and many others in Paris, the Bayeux Tapestry and the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy. Sixth Form Trip to Madrid – 30th March-2nd April
Pupils will stay with host families on this trip and daytime activities will include: language school in the mornings, visits to the Museo del Prado and Museo Reina Sofía as well as a day trip to the beautiful city of Salamanca. Contact Mr Picardo for more details.
Sixth Form Trip to Montpellier – 1st April-5th April
Pupils will undertake three mornings of language lessons during the trip and will stay with host families to maximise their exposure to French. Montpellier is a lovely city to explore and activities will include: a guided tour, a photo treasure hunt and ten pin bowling. Contact Miss Rigby for more details.
Summer Term
Year 8 Trip to Vienna – 1st June-4th June
This short action-packed trip to Vienna will include visits to the Haus der Musik, Hundertwasser-Haus, Schönbrunn gardens, a river cruise on the Danube, the Prater amusement park and the Spanische Hofreitschule. Contact Mr Brown for more details.
